The school serves children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age and is the first GEMS Education school to open in the United States. Originally known as Little GEMS International Preschool, we changed our name to reflect close alignment with GEMS World Academy Chicago, our downtown school that opened in 2014 and serves all grades through high school.

The preschool years are crucial in a child’s development, as they lay the foundation for future learning and success. Our approach is based on scientific research into child development and early-childhood education. Research indicates that children who experience high-quality early education can make significantly greater progress in school than children without that experience.

We blend the respected British Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum with an academic program specifically written for GEMS World Academy Chicago – Early Years. The result is a stimulating education experience that enhances learning and enables children to flourish intellectually, personally, socially and emotionally. Our program also provides an ideal foundation for those families interested in continuing their children’s education at the downtown GEMS campus.

The teachers at GEMS World Academy – Chicago Early Years are highly trained, skilled and passionate about early-childhood education. They know how important it is to establish bonds of trust and respect with young learners, and they make it a priority to work in partnership with the parent community.

Choosing GEMS World Academy Chicago – Early Years means giving your child a head start on education and life in a safe, nurturing, world-class preschool environment!

OUR MISSION

GEMS World Academy Chicago – Early Years provides a unique, high-quality preschool experience for infants, toddlers and young children based on the latest international research on how the brain functions and develops in the earliest learners. Our philosophy encompasses both care and education, fostering independent, creative learning and self-confidence in an environment designed specifically for young children.

We believe that every child is unique, with limitless potential. Each student deserves individual care and attention to bring out his or her best.

OUR FACILITIES

GEMS World Academy Chicago – Early Years occupies a 35,000-sqare-foot space on Clark Street in Lincoln Park. Our campus offers spacious, inviting classrooms that reflect the high standards of GEMS Education (and satisfy all requirements set by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services).

Teachers individualize their classroom layouts, basing choices on the needs of the current class and best practices. There are spaces for calm and quiet individual activities as well as more lively, social environments for friends to enjoy together. We consider the learning spaces to be partner educators, and our teachers plan their layouts with this in mind.

The Early Years campus includes two indoor gym spaces to support physical development. The gyms are used by age-appropriate groups of students, and they are big enough to be used for all-school special events. Our students enjoy a healthy amount of exercise and physical play even during the harshest periods of our Chicago winters.

Older students at Early Years have access to a dedicated music room and a theater space, allowing us to plan Creative Arts activities outside the home classroom. Our well stocked music room supplies a variety of percussion instruments that are ideal for following our music curriculum. We include instruments from around the globe, providing students the opportunity to identify how people from different parts of the world can be connected to each other through the arts.

The theater room provides a different dynamic space to engage in drama and theater lessons that go beyond the dramatic play opportunities offered in the classrooms. The flexible performing space supports puppet work as well as people acting, and has hosted not just performances by our oldest two grades, but also performances from professional guest theater groups.

GEMStone Park is another large learning space that offers a shift in classroom dynamics and the chance for students to experience a variety of learning locations during the day. It is a multi-use room, as it is large enough to provide space for lots of movement but it is also where children can explore light tables, simple coding toys and other tech opportunities.

Our youngest infants have a room that provides a large area with plenty of natural daylight for daily interactions with the teachers, but also a darker, more restful area so there is always a calm sleep environment, whatever time of day.

All learning environments have been carefully planned and beautifully designed for every stage of your child’s development and capacity for learning. Whether in a classroom, a gymnasium or our theater stage, Early Years students participate in activities that enhance the special skills needed for literacy, numeracy and a truly global mindset.

Our school is located within walking distance of some of Chicago’s greatest cultural attractions, including the Lincoln Park Conservatory, the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Chicago History Museum. With a look and feel that is inspirational, fun and exciting, GEMS World Academy Chicago – Early Years is a special place that your child will look forward to coming to each and every day.
